Receive a Refund for Your Children’s Glasses and Lenses
by Optoplus / July 2023
Receive a $300 reimbursement for your children’s eyeglasses and contact lenses!
With 1 in 4 school-age children living with a sight problem, the See Better to Succeed program – set up by the Quebec government – comes just in time. It provides financial assistance for the purchase of glasses and contact lenses for children under the age of 18. Renewable every 2 years, this enhanced reimbursement now amounts to $300 per child. This is a fixed amount and does not vary with the cost of your purchase.
Good to know: The amount reimbursed is based on the date the glasses or contact lenses were purchased. Therefore, purchases made before April 1, 2023, you will receive $250. Purchases made on or after April 2, 2023, are now eligible for a $300 refund. The reimbursement is granted only for the purchase of glasses or contact lenses prescribed by an eyecare professional for the purpose of correcting eyesight.
Who is this program for?
All children are eligible for the program if they meet the following 3 conditions:
- Be under the age of 18 on the date of purchase of eyeglasses or contact lenses.
- Be covered under the Health Insurance Plan.
- Have received a prescription for corrective eyeglasses or contact lenses during an eye examination conducted by an authorized optometrist or ophthalmologist.
It is also worth remembering that the Quebec Health Insurance Plan (RAMQ) reimburses the cost of eye examinations for those aged 18 and under. Whether you have private insurance or not, all parents are eligible for this coverage. Visit the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ) website for details of the process and reimbursement conditions.
