Dragon: Eyewear That Protects our Oceans
by Optoplus / October 2022
In the face of the threat of global warming, the Dragon brand now offers consumers the choice to be part of the solution. The leading performance eyewear brand has recently partnered with social enterprise Plastic Bank to turn the tide and offset the negative consequences of plastic consumption. In the future, every pair of Dragon eyeglasses, sunglasses and ski goggles sold will help prevent the equivalent of 10 plastic bottles from ending up in the ocean.
Every Little Bit Helps
The numbers are overwhelming: each year, roughly 11 million tonnes of plastic waste is dumped into the ocean. The purpose of the partnership with Plastic Bank is to help prevent plastic from ending up in the ocean and improve the lives of the communities that collect the waste in the affected costal areas. By choosing Dragon eyewear, customers will help prevent over 85,600 kg of plastic from entering the ocean. That’s a lot of plastic!
Naturally
This collaboration to protect our oceans is a natural fit for the Dragon brand, which has a rich surfing heritage: started in a Capo Beach garage in 1993, the label has long been favoured by extreme sports enthusiast for its high-performance eyewear, but not limited to it. A wide range of sunglasses and eyewear make up Dragon’s diverse offering: products designed for everyday life, with innovative designs and craftsmanship to suit people from all walks of life and for all tastes.
Plastic Reinvented
Sustainability is now at the heart of the company’s mission, and it offers a variety of frames made from reclaimed plastic – in other words, made from recycled plastic water bottles. Dragon also offers frames made from plant-based resin, a brilliant alternative to acetate that has revolutionized the optical market.
Dragon eyewear is available at participating OPTOPLUS clinics. Use our appointment booking platform to make the process easier. Our eyecare professionals will gladly assist you in purchasing your new frames!
