Why use swimming goggles? Swimming goggles offer the professional swimmer and vacationer several advantages: Firstly, they protect your eyes from chlorine, which irritates your eyes and could temporarily alter your vision.
They also protect your eyes from dirt, debris and bacteria in the water from getting into your eyes, avoiding conjunctivitis and other eye irritants.
They protect against harmful UV rays. Quality swimming goggles protect your eyes from the sun’s dangerous rays.
The latest models offer exceptional comfort and style!
They help improve underwater vision; a must for anyone who enjoys admiring underwater marine life!
Vision Correction: It is now possible to manipulate the curvature of the lens in several types of swimming goggles in order to add a prescription. Ask you OPTOPLUS optometrist for more information!
Choosing the right goggles There are three main types of swimming goggles: Goggles with lenses fixed to the nose bridge (monobloc - forming a single unit) can only be adjusted by the straps.
Goggles with an adjustable nose bridge can be tailored to your personal eye spacing for a perfectly snug fit.
Swim masks resemble snorkeling masks but do not cover the nose.
To find the perfect fit, first try your goggles on without the strap. Adjust the nose bridge (if adjustable) to fit your face structure and lightly press the cups until you feel a slight suction. If the goggles stay put for several seconds, they are the right fit for your face.
Tints and Coatings As with all outdoor sports, swimming requires tinted lenses with proper UVA and UVB protection. There are several tints available. Generally, tinted lenses that offer proper protection against harmful rays are an excellent choice to increase comfort and maintain eye health. However, each tint offers its own specific factors; make sure you choose the tint that is right for your specific needs! Several swimming goggles are now available with prescription. If you have myopia, astigmatism or hyperopia, ask your optometrist if adding your prescription is an option. In addition to tints, prescriptions and frame types, several treatments are available in order to ensure your goggles are always in optimal condition. The anti-fog treatment alleviates the number one problem caused by swimming goggles sold in department stores. There are also scratch resistant coatings available to prolong the life of your swimming goggles.
