Sun Protection – UVs
by Optoplus / July 2017
Many people are unaware of the dangers ultraviolet (UV) rays have on the eyes. In addition to discomfort, the simple act of squinting when outside proves that one is poorly protected from UV rays. The invisible parts of light are made up of UVA, UVB and UVC rays. UVA rays are the closest to the visible spectrum (320 to 400 nanometers) and also the most abundant. These rays can penetrate deep into the skin and eyes. The effect of sun exposure are cumulative, as such, UV rays can cause premature aging in the structures of the eye. In addition to excellent protection against UV rays, polarized lenses offer unparalleled visual comfort. These lenses eliminate glare caused by the reflection of light on surfaces such as roads, water and snow. Polarized lenses increase contrast which in turn helps reduce visual fatigue. As these lenses reduce glare considerably, they are the preferred choice of golfers, fisherman and outdoor enthusiasts. They also provide safety for motorists as most decisions and movements depend on the driver’s vision. A good way to build a barrier between your eyes and UV rays is to select polarized lenses.
